1. GSA Advantage

The Client

The General Services Administration (GSA) represents the consolidation of four smaller agencies into one comprehensive Agency. The goals of the GSA are to avoid "senseless duplication, excess cost, and confusion in handling supplies," as well as to provide space for the Government to do its work.

Around the country and throughout the world, GSA houses Federal workers and provides both products and services to support the important work of government. With an annual budget of approximately $16 billion and a staff of 14,000, GSA influences almost $66 billion in government financial transactions.

GSA secures the buildings, products, services, technology, and other workplace essentials federal agencies need. GSA associates support over one million federal workers located in 8,000 government-owned and leased buildings in 2,000 U.S. communities and overseas.

The Scenario

To meet the increasing needs of the federal employee population, the (then) current procurement process and system (Advantage!) urgently required extensive updating, as did the existing website.

The new system would be servicing even more federal workers with a wider range of more technological products. The new system would require a website that was of the highest quality: defect-free and flawless in it functioning in order to smoothly, safely and accurately process the billions of dollars of orders it sees annually.

The Solution

Brightwebsights (then Techmate, Intl) was sub-contracted to provide system testing management consulting, as well as quality assurance management consulting. Extensive test planning and execution was then performed on the website under development. Also, a detailed quality assurance program was developed that addressed the development life-cycle process. The result was a high-quality, essentially defect-free, accurate online procurement system that is in use today processing billions of dollars worth of government vendor products and services.

2. Blue Nile Trading

The Client

In the winter of 1973 from his home in Northwest Washington, DC., Duku Warren Allen began the manufacture, wholesale and retail of "Duku's Scentuals," a line of hand-made incense and perfume oils.

That Spring of 1974, manufacturing and wholesale operations were moved to a rental space at 2826 Georgia Avenue, Northwest Washington, DC. Located in the historic Howard University corridor, Blue Nile has become a premier source of herb, spices, incense and health supplies from the world over.

In 1977 the retailing of herbs, spices, herbal preparations and books were added. The building was purchased in 1982. The support and success of the retail store has made it possible to acquire another building next door, which is now Blue Nile Books. The bookstore features books on metaphysics, traditional African religions, astrology, world religions, etceteras.

The Scenario

Blue Nile needed a robust, dependable website that would feature it's sizeable selection of products for sale online. Which included over 300 herbs and spices, each with multiple size, weight, form or other variations. The site would need to be an e-Commerce storefront that would compliment and supplement the brick and mortar establishment

The Solution

Brightwebsights was contracted to design and develop an e-commerce website for Blue Nile that would service the global community and offer added value for the local customer. The result is a high-quality, defect-free e-commerce site that offers over two thousand product/size/form combinations to customers internationally.
